The TADD® jar connector helps you create an odor chamber in which your target odor in the TADD® can off-gas onto the chosen soaks in the upper jar. To ensure a proper seal, each connector comes with Parafilm strips to tightly secure the junctions.

A good soak should have negligible inherent odor, absorb and retain a representative portion of the target odor, and then gradually release it over time. Since odor profiles vary greatly across drugs, explosives, and other targets, using soaks helps dogs learn to generalize and remain operationally ready.

Back to the soaks: this is how we do it. We use them as part of our maintenance training and employ different materials so the dog understands that the common factor is the target odor. We use various soaks because we know the odor profile they adsorb and later release differs depending on the material.

We create our soaks by using the TADD® for the training aid, another glass jar for the soaks, and the TADD® jar connector to link the two jars together. In this closed system, we can co-incubate the soaks with the target odor for the desired period of time and ensure they only absorb the odor of the training aid, not any other environmental odors.
